Hydraulic architecture of sugarcane in relation to patterns of water use during plant development"^

چکیده
Hydraulic conductance was measured on leaf and stem segments excised from sugarcane plants at different stages of development. Maximum transpiration rates and leaf water potential (V'L) associated with maximum transpiration were also measured in intact plants as a function of plant size. Leaf specific hydraulic conductivity (LsJ and transpiration on a unit leaf area basis (E) were maximal in plants with approximately 0-2 m^ leaf area and decreased with increasing plant size. These changes in Eand L^c were nearly parallel, which prevented H\ in larger plants from decreasing to levels associated with substantial loss in xylem conductivity caused by embolism formation. Coordination of changes in E and leaf hydraulic properties was not mediated by declining leaf water status, since V̂ L increased with plant size. Hydraulic constrictions were present at nodes and in the node-leaf sheath-leaf blade pathway. This pattern of constrictions is in accord with the idea of plant segmentation into regions differing in water transport efficiency and would tend to confine embolisms to the relatively expendable leaves at terminal positions in the pathway, thereby preserving water transport

Sugarcane responses to irrigation and nitrogen in subtropical Iran
Limited information is available on water and nitrogen (N) management of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) in Khuzestan, southwestern Iran, where this crop is currently and extensively grown under heavy irrigation and N fertilization. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted from September 2000 to March 2002 at the Research Department of Karoon Agro-industry in Khuzestan to determine the ...

Sugarcane has been cultivated in an extensive area in Khuzestan and irrigated by hydro-flume or siphon and furrow. In a field experiment during 2005-6 at Amir Kabir Agro-Industry, Khuzestan, the effect of every other-furrow irrigation method was studied on sugarcane in regard to irrigation water volume, water use efficiency and quality and quantity of sugarcane. The experiment was conducted in ...
متن کاملشبیهسازی انتقال آب و نیترات در خاک با استفاده از مدل D1- HYDRUS در آبیاری جویچهای نیشکر
Simulation of water and solute transport in soil is very useful for optimum management of water and fertilizer use. In this study, the HYDRUS-1D model was used to simulate water and nitrate transport in furrow irrigation of sugarcane. For this putpose, a large-scale experiment was performed as a split plot design based on the randomized complete blocks with 3 replications in a 25-hectare piece ...

In order to study the effects of salinity levels of the irrigation water resulted from the sugarcane field drainage which contained mineral salt (NaCl), four salinity levels (0, 3, 6, 9 ds.m-1) and sugarcane genotypes (C4, C5,C3, CP48-103, C2, CP57-614, CP69-1062) in a potted plant were examined. It was a factorial experiment in randomized complete block design with three replications which was...
